An Afro-Caribbean's Journey

I found this picture above and I felt like someone was speaking directly to me. Have you ever read anything and was like "wow, this was the answer or inspiration I needed ?". Well, that's how I felt reading this picture above. When the slaves were freed in the Caribbean we were not given much and our ancestors did not have access to resources to educate themselves on how to survive without the aid of their masters. This resulted in years of financial and relationship struggles for the slaves and their descendants. From an evolutionary perspective, a female seeks a male who is capable of acquiring and maintaining resources. If a male does not have the abilities to do so he will not maintain healthy relationships with females. The reason why females do this is to ensure that their offspring can be taken care of for a long period of time. Now back to the point I was making, with no access to resources or proper education, the slaves who were freed in the Caribbean were left at a huge disadvantage.  Not all Caribbean islands have an abundance of resources and for those who do have them, they lack the proper knowledge to turn it into lucrative industries. Hence, when slavery ended it was the beginning of another struggle for the freed slaves in the Caribbean; the fight for scarce resources.

I grew up observing this fight: the black crab mentality, the misleading gossip, heartless killings, deception etc. You have to understand that when slavery ended, slaves were still ignorant about the economic functionality of a country, thus, we see today that the most economic stable countries in the Caribbean are the islands that are still controlled by Europe or America. If a dog was raised in a cage all his life and one day that cage door was open, yes the dog would go out and feel the freedom for a bit but eventually, that dog will come back to the safety of that cage.

Today even though we have all this information at our fingertips, we are not using it to progress. Distractions have been created to keep us from properly grasping the information. How can someone study effectively knowing that he/she is in thousands of dollars of debt from student loans? We also have misinformation as well that is making it confusing for the average person to understand what the hell he is reading. There's a lot of things that's making it difficult for Caribbean people to advance but one should not be discouraged.

God gives the hardest battles to his toughest soldiers so hope is present in the Caribbean and I believe we will be liberated one day. If you're living in the western world read the picture above and understand that you had no control over the circumstances that brought you here but you do have control of where we can go tomorrow as a people. There's tonnes of knowledge out there, go and get it! The future begins with you today!
