Ban Exams !!!

One of the areas I am an activist for is the banning of exams that account for a large portion of a student grade. I never liked exams and still don't, though, I have never failed one before and I am grateful to God for that I still do not stand for examinations.

It seems ridiculous to me to test someone's intelligence by one day of examination. It is a disadvantage to people who have memory problems, and, a huge advantage for people who remember things well or who have photographic memory. I just think it isn't fair and honestly, anything that capitalist praises I am skeptical of.

Since capitalism is a system that thrives on competition then it's only right to raise children to be competitors. This is the number one reason why people are growing further and further away for each other, because, we always feel a need to compete with each other and when we are losing we feel we are not good enough, so we distance oursleves. And guess what; this is all related to the current educational system that I honestly don't support.

A question may be raised as to why I attend University if I hate the system?

I was brought up on biblical beliefs and one of the prayers I was taught was the prayer of serenity "God grant me the serenty to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference". It's not within my power currently, to advocate effectively, a real change to the educational system. It is in my hopes through God's willing that one day I could build a new system.

If this can help someone then here is a few of my suggestions below:
  • Eliminate final exams and assess students weekly by test and pop up quizzes. The quizzes can account for 60 percent of the grade which would force students to attend all classes and be attentive to what is being taught. There are flaws I admit but with the right people around me I know this can work.
  • I would take away the ranking system the Caribbean Islands use in their schools like 1st,2nd,3rd and Last place positions. Introduce a class average system with class and group exercises that would promote teamwork and brotherhood from a young age.
  • Lastly, implement a series of apprentcieship programs that would give our kids a whole lot of exposure to multiple professions before they graduate. It takes a village to raise a child and we need to expose our kids more so that they would have a real sense of direction as to where they are going in life once they live school.
I have more ideas but I will stop there. I believe in creating a equalibrium social system and I believe no man is greater than another; we all are equals.

Be Bless, Be Safe, One Love,
Leo
